On September 5, four Paralympic champions will be crowned at the La Chapelle Arena during day two of the Para Powerlifting competition. The day will feature two finals in the afternoon and two more in the evening.

Morning

The day's action kicks off with the women's up to 50kg final. Great Britain's Olivia Broome, the reigning world champion and Tokyo 2020 bronze medallist, is the favorite to win. However, new contenders from recent World Cups could make the competition exciting. China’s Jinping Xiao, who set a new Asian record at 123kg in Tbilisi, and Bose Bejide, are strong competitors, though China’s Hu Dandan and Nigeria’s world record holder Esther Oyema (131kg) will not be competing.

Following this will be the men's up to 59kg final, where China’s Qi Yongkai, the defending Paralympic and world champion, will be the one to beat. Other notable competitors include Al Salvador’s Herbert Aceituno, a medallist at Tokyo 2020 and Dubai 2023 Worlds, and Iran’s Mohsen Bakhtiar, who has shown impressive form this season. The world record in this category, set by Egypt’s Osman (211kg) at Rio 2016, will be a benchmark.

The final event of the day will be the men’s up to 65kg final, where China’s Zou Yi, the reigning world champion and world record holder (222kg), is expected to perform strongly.
